Meet Alev Viggio, Drata’s new Director of Compliance.Meet Alev Viggio, Drata’s new Director of Compliance.
A Little About Alev
Alev is a Colorado resident, where she resides with her family and Samoyed puppy, Sebastian. She and her family enjoy hikes on the numerous trails in the Rocky Mountains and skiing in the winter. She looks forward to visiting Japan someday soon as they had to put their travel plans on hold due to the pandemic.
Alev also spends her free time supporting her community. She volunteers with organizations such as Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN), a human rights organization committed to ending violence against adults, youth, and children through support, advocacy, education, and community organizing.
Other hobbies of Alev include the annual Chocolate Lovers’ Fling (Boulder County’s longest running fundraiser), Boulder International Film Festival (BIFF), and music in general – something she can’t live without.
Professional Highlights
With over a decade of experience, Alev previously served as a Compliance Manager for Sigma Computing, where she helped further develop their compliance program and processes. She prepared the company for their first SOC 2 Type 2, HIPAA, and TruSight audits along with several other compliance attestations over the years. Alev was also one of the first team members at Conga to focus on compliance, helping the company achieve SOC 2 Type 2, HIPAA compliance, and ISO 27001 and 27701 certifications.
Alev will be working with her former colleague and now Drata CISO, Ross Hosman, ensuring Drata upholds its own strong compliance program as a compliance automation platform.
Why Drata?
Drata’s automation-led approach and versatility were two driving factors in Alev joining Drata. Whether we’re helping a startup with limited security and compliance resources, or a larger company that has a full fledged team dedicated toward those areas, Drata benefits companies of all sizes and industries.
And as an expert in the compliance field, Alev appreciates how Drata allows her to assess compliance programs in real-time, instead of having to plan around infrequent internal audits.
What Are You Looking to Accomplish at Drata?
Alev is eager to join the engaging culture at Drata and work with the product, engineering, and sales teams who, in her own words, “are always on the top of their game,” while keeping up with the company’s fast growing trajectory.
A Piece of Advice for Women Looking to Get Into Compliance?
Compliance is still a male-dominated industry, although it is making strides toward more inclusivity and diversity.
For women (or anyone) trying to break into the field, Alev suggests keeping up with the changes that are occurring in the industry (both legislative and regulatory), getting involved in the compliance industry to ask questions, and consistently voicing observations and opinions. Other resources for women looking to get their foot in the door include joining communities like ISSA.org, as well as keeping an eye on women and other experts that are leading conversations in the industry. Shira Rubinoff and Michelle Denedy are a few prime examples of leading women in the industry.
